Charles Demuth, a painter who studied in both Philadelphia and Paris, is one of Lancaster’s most prized artists. He is known for his elegant depiction of native botanicals as well as his participation in creating a unique American style of painting, dubbed Precisionism, which borrowed some techniques of the European avant-garde and used them to celebrate the progressive, industrial American landscape. This pipe’s delicate, whimsical design is imbued with Demuth’s unique artistic sensibilities, at once organic and modern in form.
Exclusively made for Ellicott & Co. by Jesse O'Hara of Companion Pipes, a maker from right here in Lancaster County. The pipe is hand carved from Grecian Briar and the stem is hand cut German Ebonite with integral tenons. Its chamber width is 3/4 inches. The pipe is finished with pure Carnauba wax and has not been stained. It will oxidize and darken quickly with use, accentuating the beautiful grain of the wood. Jesse will gladly do a once a year polish of your pipe at no charge.
* The stems should never be removed while the pipe is hot. It can destroy the fit of the stem to the shank.
