Bittermilk labored over the formulation that captures the essence of a classic Manhattan cocktail as a non-alcoholic elixir. Using port wine (alcohol-removed), grapes, raisins and bitters they replicated the classic sweet vermouth flavor enhanced with a bit of cherry. Aged in Willett bourbon barrels, it gains charred oak and vanilla notes, while the bitters add complexity for balance.
Manhattan: Stir 1 part Bittermilk Manhattan Mixer and 4 parts rye or bourbon with lots of ice. Strain into a cocktail glass, and serve up. Garnish with a brandied cherry.
Also pairs well with soda water for a non-alcoholic spin on a vermouth & soda.
