Brooklyn Slate Company is a Brooklyn-based brand founded in 2009 by graphic designer Sean Tice and Parsons graduate student Kristy Hadeka. Inspired by a visit to Kristy’s family’s slate quarry in upstate New York, they began creating all-purpose boards from the slate, using them as trivets, coasters, and serving trays. The positive response from friends led them to establish the company and produce a line of slate products.
The company’s slate is sourced from the Vermont and New York Slate Valley, a region known for producing durable slate used in roofing and other applications. Each piece is handcrafted, with edges chipped by hand to create unique shapes and sizes. The boards are prized for their durability and distinctive appearance, with each piece being one-of-a-kind.
With a focus on sustainability and craftsmanship, Brooklyn Slate Company continues to offer high-quality, handcrafted slate products that add a touch of elegance to any occasion.
